A hookah has just five key components. Understanding them helps you pick the right setup — and keep it running well for years.
Sits at the top of the hookah and holds the shisha tobacco. Clay and ceramic bowls retain heat well. Silicone bowls are nearly indestructible. The bowl type directly influences how evenly your shisha heats.
The central column that connects the bowl to the base. Air and smoke travel down through the shaft and into the water. Stainless steel and aluminum shafts are the most durable and easy to clean.
Glass or acrylic vessel filled with water. Smoke is pulled through the water, cooling and filtering it before inhalation. The water level should cover the stem by about one inch for optimal draw.
Flexible tube used to draw smoke from the base. Traditional leather hoses absorb flavor over time. Modern washable silicone or acrylic hoses give a cleaner, more consistent draw. We carry both styles.
The heat source for the shisha. Natural coconut shell charcoal burns clean and long, ideal for flavor. Quick-light charcoal is faster to ignite. We carry both types at all Smokers Haven locations.

Shisha is flavored tobacco mixed with molasses or honey and heated indirectly with charcoal in a hookah. Unlike cigarettes, shisha is not burned. Instead, it's slowly heat-vaporized, producing a thicker, sweeter smoke. Nicotine content varies by brand and flavor.

Natural coconut shell charcoal is widely regarded as the best option because it burns longer, produces less ash, and adds no off-flavor to your shisha. Quick-light charcoal is more convenient but can affect flavor. We carry both at all Smokers Haven locations.
Fill the base with cold water (stem submerged ~1 inch), pack shisha loosely in the bowl, cover with punctured foil, add lit charcoal on top, and draw slowly to build heat. Our staff will walk you through this in-store with any hookah purchase, free of charge.

You'll need charcoal, aluminum foil or a heat management device, and a lighter or coil burner. Optional but helpful: a hookah tray (for ash), extra hoses, replacement bowls, and tongs. We stock all of these at every location.
